These results were accomplished with only a single hour of practice. These results were confirmed by a similar study at Ohio State University which was reported in Proceedings of the Society of Behavioral Medicine Researchers divided thirty elderly residents of a retirement home into three groups of ten persons each. The first group received relaxation training three times a week. The second group received personal social contact three times a week. The third group received nothing. Results showed a 32 percent increase in white blood cell count for the first (relaxation-training) group; an 18 percent rise for the second (social contact) group; and a 6 percent drop for die control group. (An increase in white blood cell count signifies increased immunocompetence.)
